As I was face-booking this morning I realized that I missed having some where to express my views, process ideas, and brag and/or complain about my children without offending my 188 friends.  Here people have the choice to read my opinions, thoughts, ramblings and rants, or not! So, here I am!

I’m still living in Mom and Dad’s house in my home town, and working at the local watering hole, only difference is my little man is now going to the school I graduated, and I’m now managing the watering hole. My Diamond is still hanging by my side in the dance of the 12 year old marriage and my grown daughter’s have still not managed to give me a heart attack, and my 12 year old little man has not managed, despite his many attempts, to make my head completely spin around and my eyes pop out of their sockets. My grandson’s are still a source of pride and joy, with a few omg-I-don’t-know-those-children moments thrown in to keep me from forgetting from where they came! My brother, sweet sister in law, and their children are also a huge part of my life, for which I am grateful!

Tis the Season, isn’t it? Stress levels are high, funds are low, so I’m seriously considering dropping the Christmas card list in the Not Happening this Year pile.  I did buy a couple of boxes of Dollar Sore cards though. Would really to send them, with a little note that says,

Money’s tight, times are hard, here’s your cheap ass Christmas card!

Cost: 20 cards for $1.

Postage: 44 cents

The idea that its the thought that counts: Priceless!

Yup, my mouthy, opinionated, witty self is back!

Vicky =)

Yeah, that’s right… I’ve got a degree in social work and yet I’m tend bar 5 days a week.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not looking down on the profession, I’ve been a proud member for close to 20 years. It’s hard work, both physically and mentally. It just pisses me off that I spent 6 years taking classes and yet I’m not working ‘in the field.’

Of course everything I learned in that 6 years comes in very handy behind the bar! Social work/bar tending are after all, closely related! Now I just happen to understand the reason’s behind many of my regulars behavior’s. And I always love the look they get on their faces when I tell them I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work.

I remember clearly the dumb founded look on one regulars face. He’s an old friend of my Dad’s, a royal pain in the ass, and one of my favorites. The 1st thing he asked was what the hell I was doing behind a bar. After I explain that the powers that be haven’t seen fit to increase the work force in that field, even with the economy such as it is, he moved on to say that he understands now, why I am so good at what I do.

It’s a compliment I cherish. It makes all those hours of studying worth while. Even if I never hold a position in the social work field I’m still making a difference in people’s lives. On a regular basis. And in my own way!

I Love Sunday’s!

My whole family has the day off, not that we always spend it together, but we can!

I can sleep in, even though I rarely do! I love the peace and quiet while my guys sleep!!

I love sipping coffee, watching the birds feed, and the Sunday morning news.

Watching my puppy look at herself in the glass of the gun cabinet amuses the hell out of me.

I love watching movies on Lifetime, writing, and taking a nap if I feel like it!

Stress free, Sunday’s are the most relaxing day of the week!

As a working mom, I am very lucky. I work right here in the little village we live in and my little man is 11. No day care costs, no last minute drop offs, no stress. Most working Mom’s aren’t so lucky. Summer vacation is stressful, even for me. A new routine must be established, and activities found to keep the little urchins from getting into trouble when bored.

I think our nation needs to rethink the school year. When public schools were  first opened, our society was largely agricultural and children were needed during the summer months to help on the farm. Times have changed  and there is no longer a need for three month long summer vacations.

Think about it, our country is way behind educationally.  Traditional schools spend time every fall reviewing material that was forgotten by students during the summer months. And the last month of the school year is a battle to hold the student’s attention. So out of a 9 month school year our children are only really learning about 6 of those months. The standard year around schools go 6 weeks on 2 weeks off.

And that brings me back on topic. I tend to ramble if ya didn’t notice by now. It’s a hell of a lot easier to impose on relatives and friends, or even pay for day care for 2 weeks every couple of months, than it is for 3 months at a crack, and a week here and there for the holidays. Now to just convince the school board….

Here is the story…

An Ohio man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at a public park said he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he took control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky’s Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.

Police said they arrested 48-year-old Hamilton after he refused to stop mowing and charged him with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

City Manager Matt Kline called the arrest unfortunate and said he understands Hamilton’s frustration. Kline said budget cuts have left Sandusky understaffed for seasonal maintenance work.

So, let me get this straight? The city can’t afford to pay someone to mow the grass in a city park and it really needs done… but when someone comes along and attempts to help out, he gets arrested for his good deed? Sandusky, you got some ’splainin’ to do!!!
