Starting in May, the U.S. Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. The economic stimulus checks are intended to bolster our economy. For many of us they will barely off set the cost at the gas pumps for the year. With gas prices now averaging $3.50 a gallon it won’t take long for that little bone the government is throwing us to disappear.
At $118 a barrel, oil prices are at an all time high. On previous occasions when we saw oil price increases of such magnitude (1974, 1979 and 1990), the world economy went into a recession. Our experts have been trying for months to convince us it wasn’t coming but the average American, with little or no financial expertise isn’t buying their bullshit glass is half full outlook. With mortage foreclosures affecting 1 in 5 households more and more families are being thrown into the street. The rising cost of food, shelter, and fuel is forcing people to go hungry or forgo buying their prescription drugs, and because of the added stress many personal relationships are being sorely tested by the financial strain.
It is not my intention to create panic, but please people let common sense prevail. A new flat screen TV isn’t a necessity, and I don’t care what our jackass president tells you, buying a TV made in Japan isn’t going to help our economy! Put those stimulus checks to better use. If you don’t, you may very well live to regret it. Be prepared for the worst and pray for the best. Cut expenses wherever possible. Plan ahead. As my friend Kelly at Ugly Ass Opinions often quips, ‘let common sense prevail!’
