I don’t want to piss anyone off or run people off from my Blog, but I think our immigration issues are our own fault. It isn’t a new issue, and it’s a long debated issue, but one that hasn’t actively been addressed for years. And considering it’ll be the 7th anniversary of 9/11 it should have been… but, not only have we let people sneak past our borders, we’ve let our own companies employ them under a legal guise that everyone knows is anything but legal – and yet still turns a blind eye to. Or has until now anyway!
If we had kept our borders more secure, they wouldn’t be here. If we didn’t offer them employment, they wouldn’t be here. If we hadn’t allowed it, they wouldn’t be here! I refuse to be mad at these people (who aren’t doing anything I wouldn’t do), considering the circumstances they come from. Our border security is apparently a joke and these companies we allow to operate under the radar, are the toilet paper of the industry.
We can’t live on the wages many of these companies pay our illegals. One reason they can is because of their culture. American families don’t live 2 and 3 families in one home, or cook, or garden and can and freeze like many of these people do. They came from less and this is a step up for them. So they aren’t looking for a hand out and aren’t taking jobs from many of us. And if they are employed by these companies they are paying taxes. If they are shopping here they are paying taxes. They see doctors, and dentists and they add revenue. In this case to a dieing little community, that has thrived since they’ve arrived. These are not the immigrants who come here with money, start businesses, and get tax breaks! But that is the reason our government has turned that blind eye. Money!
These particular people, this particular group, they aren’t hurting anyone. But they are starting to make the country look bad, so now is the time we have to do something. If we don’t crack down on ‘these’ immigrants we can’t crack down on the one’s our government really wants, without looking like the Archy Bunker of the World. Our revised watch dog laws may work but we can’t look like we are being bigoted even if we are justifiable in doing so. We’ve put ourselves on such a pedestal by sticking our nose into other countries business that we have no room to fall.
And considering the state of this country there is a distinct possibility that many of our citizen’s on the lower rungs of the socioeconomic scale may be forced to immigrate themselves. I know living in Canada is looking better and better to me all the time.
I have to say first of all I live in Texas. Yes, we have a major illegal immigration problem, and yes we caused it ourselves. It is like telling your child he is going to get a time out for doing something wrong and never follow throughing with it. The child just keeps doing it because he knows nothing will happen. Now we have illegal immigrants using our emergency rooms and not paying and we have illegal immigrants killing people and they pretty much know if they get caught not much can happen to them.
I think the U.S. borders should be completly shut down. Not just the southern border but the northern border as well. Shut them both down and then deal with the problem that lies in between them afterwards. Just my humble little opinion.
Good post. I’m a conservative Republican who thinks most of the country is gone ape-crazy over immigration without ever really thinking about it. You can’t blame the workers for going off to find jobs to feed their families. If there were no jobs here and good paying jobs in Canada, I’d learn to say “eh” after each phrase. And if you sit there and say you wouldn’t go to work to feed you’re family then you’re a piece of crap.
Could we close the borders now? Maybe. We need to assimilate those that are here and stop the bleeding first.
Oh, and as the son of a farmer I can tell you right now, most immigrant workers are paying taxes. If farmers don’t report their wages then they can write them off as business expenses. And I don’t know many farmers who are willing to lose thousands in write-offs from their taxes so a worker could save hundreds in taxes.
